[plant morphology] Malacca verticillata
Perennial shrubby herb, 60-80 cm high, stems clustered, quadrangular, with adventitious roots on the nodes close to the ground, more branches at the upper end, swelling at the base of nodes. Leaves opposite, lanceolate, 3-4 cm long, 0.7-1 cm wide, apex obtuse, base narrowly cuneate, margin sparsely obtuse serrate, glabrous on both sides; petiole short or nearly sessile, short spike from axil of branch top, flower light purple, diameter about 1.2 cm; sepals 5, narrow, green; corolla funnel-shaped, lower slender tube, slightly curved, upper 5 lobes, apex rounded; stamens 4 Pistil 1, style slender, hairy, slightly exposed outside the tube. The flowering period is from June to July.
It grows at the edge of forest, ditch and house. It is distributed in Sichuan and Hubei.
[collection] from July to September, the stems and leaves can be harvested twice and dried in the sun.
[medicinal material] the dried whole grass is purple black (purple red when fresh); the stem is tetragonal, about 3-5 mm thick, and the end is gradually small. The surface is brown, with anterograde texture and nodes. The internodes are about 4-8 cm long. Branches opposite to nodes. It is brittle and easy to break. There is a small hollow in the center of the section. Most of the leaves have shrunk or broken, and the intact ones are lanceolate. It is slightly fragrant. It is better to have less broken grass.
This product is used as Eupatorium adenophorum in Western Sichuan.
