Herbs annual or biennial. Stems usually tufted or branched from base, 5-30 cm long, base procumbent, upper part oblique, with short setae. Single leaf alternate; ovate lanceolate, or elliptic, 1.5-3 cm long, 5-20 mm wide, apex obtuse, with small convex head, base narrowly truncated, with flat bristles on both sides, upper leaves gradually smaller, sessile, lower leaves petiolate, 2-4 cm long. Flowers small, solitary in leaf axils, petiolate, 3-5 mm long, usually pendulous; calyx 5-lobed, lobes lanceolate or linear, apex long pointed, outer setae; corolla white, 2-3 mm in diameter, lobes 5, corolla tube throat with 5 scales; stamens 5, hidden in corolla tube; ovary 4-lobed, style short, stigma capitate. Nutlets 4, elliptic, 1.5 mm long, 1 mm wide, tuberculate. The flowering period is from May to July.
Born in wasteland and hillside. It is distributed in most areas of China.
