[plant morphology] Asarum grandiflorum
Perennial herbs. There are light yellow creeping rhizomes, many fleshy roots, and usually two leaves at the top. The leaves are large, thick, ovate elliptic, 16-20 cm long and 8-10 cm wide, apex acute, base heart-shaped, curved and narrow; petiole fleshy, 14-20 cm long, sparsely pubescent. The flowers are large, solitary, stem apex, 6 cm in diameter, purplish brown; the petiole is 2-9 cm long; perianth is short, lobes are 3, broadly ovate, about 3 cm long, about 4 cm wide, with white transverse wrinkles at the base; stamens are 12. Capsule fleshy, subglobose; ca. 2. 5 cm in diam. Seeds conic, apex acuminate, abaxial surface nearly smooth.
It grows in shady and wet places under hillside forests and by streams. It is distributed in Guangdong, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei and Sichuan.
[collection] harvest in spring and summer. Wash and dry. In Guangxi, the whole plant was dug in winter, washed and dried.
[medicinal materials] the rhizome of the dried whole grass with roots is stout, straight or curved, about 5-10 cm long and 3-4 mm thick; it is brownish gray or light brown in appearance, with many links, residual shrunken leaf base or dried leaves at the top, a few fine fibrous roots at the bottom, and no obvious wrinkles. Broken flour is white. The leaves are wrinkled, crisp, withered green or withered brown; after soaking in water, they are heart-shaped, with flower spots on the surface; the petioles are slender and purple brown. The air is slightly fragrant. The best color is yellow green and white stripe.
