Herbs erect, base lignified. Stem square, green or reddish, nodes inflated. Leaves opposite; stipitate; ovate, margin serrate, apex acuminate, base broadly cuneate or shallowly cordate. Inflorescence axillary or terminal; whorls numerous, dense, flowers white; calyx teeth 5; corolla 2-lipped, 4-lobed; stamen 4, prominent, filaments hairy; pistil 1, style 2-lobed. Nutlets, elliptic, ventrally ribbed, smooth, about 1.5-2 mm long, brownish yellow.
It is found in roadside, wasteland or wet place under hillside forest. It is distributed in Yunnan and other places.

Bitter and cool.
Functions and indications: clearing away heat and toxin, cooling blood and stopping bleeding. Treatment of tuberculosis, hemoptysis, hematemesis, acute gastroenteritis.
