Perennial herbs. The rhizome is stout, with many fibrous roots. Leaf blade oblong, apex acuminate, base cuneate, entire or undulate, with parallel veins and patches. Flowers brown or reddish, solitary, stem short; perianth campanulate; stamens 6; ovary superior, with broad shield shaped stigma. Berries globose. The flowering period is from August to September.
Born in deep mountains and forests, valleys, streams wet place. It is distributed in Yunnan and other places.
