Perennial herbs, up to 20-50 cm in height. Dense fibrous roots, light brown. Rhizome transverse, yellowish brown, densely covered with light brown scales. The leaves are nearly the same length as the leaves; the petioles are thin and weak with scales at the base, purple black and glossy; the leaves are 1-3 pinnate compound leaves, and the lower part is 3 pinnate compound leaves. In the middle part, there are 2 cycles, and in the upper part, there are 1 cycle: 8-13 pairs of pinnae, alternate, stipitate, the largest pair near the base, 2 cycles of feathery compound leaves have petioles, the width of the last cycle is about 3-3.5 mm, most of them are fan-shaped, the base is wedge-shaped, with petioles, the upper edge often has irregular deep cracks, lobes are blunt, sterile lobes also have small teeth, the leaves are thin grass, light green, smooth on both sides, and obvious veins . The cysts are usually oblong, brown, white, membranous, with 3-7 pinnae. The sporangia are round to oblong, slightly curved, sessile, and the spores are small and yellowish.
They like to grow on wet rocks by streams or slopes with pine forests. It is distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Anhui, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Shaanxi, Shanxi, etc.
② Adiantum leucocephalum
Perennial herbs, 20-30 cm high. Rhizome slender, transverse, apex covered with ovate lanceolate scales, dark brown, below with short fibrous roots, light brown. The petiole is round and thin, glossy, purplish brown, 10-20 cm long, glabrous except the base; the leaf blade is triangular oval, 10-15 cm long and 7-10 cm wide. 3-pinnate compound leaves; 3-5 pairs of pinnae under the apex, the largest basal pinnae, triangular lanceolate, 7 cm long and 3-4 cm wide; pinnules oblong, stipitate, obtuse; 1-4 pairs of last pinnules, fan-shaped, 4-7 mm long and wide, round head, margin awned serrate, stipitate; leaves thick leathery, glabrous above, green, powdery below; veins fan-shaped. The sporangia are brown, round kidney shaped and 2-3 mm long.
Born on the wet stone by the mountain stream. Distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan, Shaanxi, Gansu, Shanxi, Hebei and other places.
In addition, the whole plant of Adiantum semilunatum and Adiantum yunnanense is also used as bristle grass. The former is distributed in South China and southwest China, while the latter is distributed in Yunnan, as shown in the article "bristle grass".
It contains flavonoids, total sugars and total tannins. The flavonoids in leaves are: astragaloside, isoquercetin, pyroside, kaempferol-3-glucuronide, rutin and quercetin-3-glucuronide. In addition, it is said that the product contains adiantone, 3 α, 4 α - epoxidized Mianma terpane and a small amount of 21-hydroxy-30-norpoane-22-one.
[pharmacological action] Adiantum has expectorant effect, so it is used to treat chronic bronchitis: no antibacterial effect.
