Perennial herb, 35-60 cm high, glabrous. Rhizome stout, creeping. Stem erect, longitudinally striped, green, sometimes reddish. Leaves usually 4, sometimes 5-7, whorled at the top of stem; petiole 1-4.5 cm long; leaves herbaceous, broadly ovate, 7.3-11.5 cm long, 3.8-7.2 cm wide, apex short pointed and slightly curved, entire, base slightly heart-shaped or truncate, 3 main veins, basal. Flowers single, terminal, petiole 10.5-16 cm long; bisexual, 4-petal outer perianth, green, ovate lanceolate, ca. 3 cm long, 1-1.3 cm wide, apex acuminate, base with short stalk; 4-petal inner perianth, narrowly linear, yellowish green, 4.5-6.5 cm long; stamens 12, ca. 1.2 cm long, filaments flat, anthers linear, connectives extended into a small tip at the top, ca. 1 mm long; Style 4-5, apex revolute. Berry subglobose, ca. 1.8 mm in diam., with persistent perianth outside; seeds numerous, subglobose, light brown. The flowering period is June. The fruit period is from July to August.
Born in the shade and wet under the forest. It is distributed in Sichuan, Guangxi and other places.
