[plant morphology] cinnabar root
Shrubs, up to 1.5 meters high, all bare. Stem erect with several branches. The leaves are papery to leathery, elliptic lanceolate to oblanceolate, 6-12 cm long and 2-4 cm wide; the apex is short pointed or acuminate, the base is short pointed or cuneate, both sides are bare, with raised glandular points, margin with obtuse circular wavy teeth, dorsal convolution and glands; the lateral veins are 12-18 pairs, very slender, combined near the edge to form one vein, often hidden in the convoluted margin; the petiole is 5-10 mm long. Umbels terminal or axillary, peduncle 1.5-2 cm long; flowers white or light red; sepals 5-lobed, lobes long ovate, blunt head; corolla 5-lobed, lobes long elliptic lanceolate, 4-5 mm long, with sepals have sparse glandular points; stamens 5, filaments very short, base flat; ovary superior, style linear. Drupe globose, ca. 6 mm in diam., red when ripe, with black spots. The flowering period is from June to July.
Born in mountain forest, ditch, roadside. Distributed in Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi and other places.

[herb] dry root, many branched, thin cylindrical, slightly curved, varying in length, 4-10 mm in diameter. The surface is dark purple or dark brown with longitudinal wrinkles and fibrous root marks. It is hard and easy to separate the wood and bark in the section. The bark is developed, accounting for about 1 / 2 of the section. It is light purple and the wood is light yellow.
Produced in Fujian, Hunan and Guangxi.
In Hunan Province, the two-color milk cow of the same genus is used as the same product. It is known locally as "honglangsan" and "zibeizhushagen".
[pharmacological action] 25% decoction had mild inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in vitro. 60% ethanol extract has anti early pregnancy effect.

Use 10% water decoction, 30 ml each time, 3 times a day; or use 1 g powder capsule to swallow, 3 times a day; or use honey pill, 3 times a day, 1 pill each time (including 1 g powder). 45 cases were cured in 22 cases, improved in 19 cases and ineffective in 4 cases.
