Shrubs, up to 3 m high. Young branches and branchlets are usually densely covered with tawny pubescence, stellate hairs and glandular dots, while old branches are smooth or glabrous. Leaf blade broad elliptic, elliptic ovate or elliptic lanceolate, 7-18 cm long and 2.5-8 cm wide, apex acuminate, base cuneate, margin denticulate or denticulate, below densely covered with single and branched pubescence, stellate hair and glandular dots, upper hair sparse and single hair, lateral veins 6-9 on each side, projecting forward from main vein slightly curved. The flower is small, light red, axillary, dense cyme; calyx is short bell shaped, 4 shallow teeth, inner surface is nearly smooth and glabrous; corolla is short tubular, 4-lobed, lobes oval; stamen 4, filament is longer than corolla lobes, anther is long elliptic, connective densely glandular; pistil 1, ovary spherical, style longer than stamen. Berry shaped drupe, globose, purple when ripe, with 2-4 seeds. The flowering period is from July to September. The fruit period is from September to October.
It grows on hillside, woodland or mountain. It is distributed in Shaanxi, Shanxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Fujian and other places.
