[plant morphology] Ardisia variegata

Small evergreen shrub, up to 30 cm tall. The root is slender and cylindrical. Stem erect, branchlets 10-17 cm long, slightly gray. Leaves alternate, elliptic lanceolate, 8-14 cm long, 2.8-4.8 cm wide, apex slightly pointed, margin microwavy; petiole about 4-8 mm long. Umbel terminal: usually bisexual; pedicel ca. 1 cm long; flowers white or reddish, usually glandular punctate. Drupe globose, red, apically spiny. 1 seed. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit period is winter.

Most of them live in subtropical mountains, sparse forests and humid places. It is distributed in the middle and south of China.
