[plant morphology] Salix psammophila, also known as maogoutiao and Populus davidiana.
Shrubs or small trees. Branchlets dark brown, silky hairy when young, glabrous later; winter buds smooth and glabrous. Leaves alternate, obovate lanceolate to long elliptic lanceolate, 4-10 cm long, 1-3 cm wide, apex acuminate, base broadly cuneate, entire or slightly serrate, with silky hairs on the top at first, glabrous and smooth on the back, bluish white below, nearly glabrous; petiole 8-15 mm long, glabrous; stipules small. Catkin on short bract peduncle, nearly sessile, hairy; only 1 gland; male inflorescence 2-3 cm long; female inflorescence 2-5 cm long, fruiting one 10 cm long; bracts dark brown, apex obtuse; stamens 2, free, filaments smooth, glabrous; ovary beak like, pubescent, style short, stigma long ovate to oblong, concave 2-lobed. Capsule ca. 9 mm, sparsely pilose.
Most of them live on wild slopes. It is distributed in Zhejiang, Hubei, Henan, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and other places.
