[plant morphology] conodont
Annual erect herb, 5-20 cm high. Stems slender, narrowly winged. Single leaf alternate; heart-shaped or round, 0.4-2 cm long, 0.3-1.4 cm wide, apex obtuse or convex, base somewhat heart-shaped, entire or slightly wavy, basal veins 3-5; membranous; petiole 1-1.5 mm long. Spikes terminal, 1-6 cm long; flowers very small, about 2 mm long, light red; bracteoles very small, caducous; sepals 5, linear subulate, base connate, persistent; petals 3, lower connate, the lateral pair shorter. Capsule very small, ca. 2 mm long, margin with a row of curved, triangular short cleft teeth. The seeds are black and shiny. It blooms in autumn.
Born in the wilderness. Distribution in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian and other places.
