Herbaceous perennial, 30-55 cm high. Stem erect, simple, 4-angled, hirsute. Leaves opposite, heart ovate, 3-9 cm long, 1-5.5 cm wide, apex long, tail pointed, base cordate, sometimes truncate, margin coarsely dentate, both sides covered with hairs; petiole 6-50 mm long. Cymose in upper leaf axils; bracts linear, 1.8-5 mm long, hairy; calyx 5-lobed, lobes conical or needle shaped, slightly longer or nearly 1 time longer than calyx tube; corolla white, 20-30 mm long, 2-lipped, hairy, upper lip cucullate downward curved, lower lip 3-lobed, drooping; stamens 4,2-strong, filaments hairy, anthers black purple; ovary 4-lobed, style with ovary bottom, style The head is 2-cleft. [chemical constituents] the leaves contain mucin, tannin, volatile oil, ascorbic acid 0.56%, carotene 15 mg% and saponin.
