[plant morphology] Myrica rubra
Evergreen trees, up to 12 meters high, crown spherical. Leaves alternate; oblong or oblanceolate, leathery, 8-13 cm long, upper narrow, apex slightly obtuse, base narrowly cuneate, entire, or apex with a few serrate, dark green above, glossy below, smooth glabrous, with golden glands. Flowers dioecious; male inflorescence clustered in leaf axils, cylindrical, about 3 cm long, yellow red; male flower with 1 bract, ovate, sharp apex, 2-4 bracts, ovate, 5-6 stamens; female inflorescence oval, about 1.5 cm long, often single in leaf axils; female flower base bracts and bracts, ovary ovate, style very short. The drupe is spherical, about 1.8 cm in diameter. The exocarp is dark red and consists of many cysts. The endocarp is hard, about 9 mm in diameter. It contains a seed without endosperm. The flowering period is April. The fruit period is early summer.
It is distributed in Southeast provinces of China.
