[plant morphology] sarcandra odorata
It is a perennial herb with strong special smell. Taproot not obvious, with many fibrous roots, brown yellow. Stem erect, cylindrical, 50-80 cm high, purplish red, smooth glabrous, base slightly lignified, twigs gray green, often hollow. Leaves alternate, 2 or 3 pinnate; leaflets elliptic or obovate, varying in size, 1-2.5 cm long, 0.7-1.5 cm wide, apex obtuse or slightly concave, entire, base cuneate, dark green above, gray green below, papery, bald, with transparent glandular dots. Cymes terminal, or terminal on lateral branches, with leaflets at the base of branches; calyx 4-lobed, 1-1.5 mm long, apex obtuse or slightly round, connate below the middle, with glandular dots; petals 4, white, separated, oblong or obovate oblong, apex obtuse, with transparent glandular dots; stamens 8, filaments filiform, varying in length and separated from each other, anthers oblong, yellow, longitudinal, 2-lobed Ovary 1, carpel 4, base separated, with ovary stalk, when fruit ripe, ovary stalk elongated, style 4, upper part united, base separated, stigma slightly expanded. Capsule with prominent glandular dots on the surface. Seeds several, reniform, dark brown. The flowering period is from April to October. The fruit period is from June to November.
It grows on hillside, under forest and shrub. It is distributed in southwest, South China, East China and Taiwan.
