[plant morphology] yaerqin

Herbaceous perennial, 30-90 cm high. The roots grow in clusters. The stem is erect with forked branches. Leaf blade broad ovate, 5-18 cm long, 3-out, middle leaflet rhomboid obovate, 3-10 cm long, 2.5-7 cm wide, apex short pointed, base cuneate, both leaflets obliquely obovate, leaflet margin serrate or sometimes 2-3-lobed, petiole 5-17 cm long; leaves on stem sessile, leaves reduced, leaflets lanceolate. The compound umbel is panicle shaped, with 4-10 pedicels of unequal length. The involucre and small involucre each have 1-3 linear premature bracts and bracteoles. Small umbel with 2-4 flowers; white flowers, sometimes purplish; calyx teeth not show; petal tip curved inward; petiole linear, very unequal, short only 3 mm. The fruit is linear, long ovate, narrow at both ends, often curved, 4-6 mm long, with thin edges and blunt linear shape. The flowering period is from April to May.

It grows in the shade under the forest. It is distributed all over the south of the Yangtze River.
