Shrubs, up to 3 m high. The root is reddish brown. Bark yellowish brown; branchlets purple or dark brown, pubescent at first, glabrescent later. Leaves alternate, narrowly elliptic, 3.5-6.5 cm long and 1-2 cm wide. Apex short pointed, base broad cuneate or round, margin glandular serrate, both sides of veins with white filiform hair at the beginning, fall off later; petiole 5-10 mm long. Catkin; male inflorescence 2.4-4.5 cm long, male flowers sparsely; bracts obovate, ventral gland 1, ovate; stamen 2; female inflorescence 5 cm long, female flowers dense, short stemmed; bracts broadly ovate. Capsule ovoid conic, glabrous.

It grows in the shrub of hillside or on the grass slope of mountain. Distributed in Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou and other places.
