Deciduous shrub, 2-3m high. Stem erect, reddish brown, many branched, with sharp spines. Leaves alternate, odd pinnate; leaflets 9-11, ovate, apex obtuse or rounded, margin simple or double serrate, base broadly cuneate, sessile: flowers solitary or clustered, light red; petals 5; stamens numerous; carpels numerous. The fruit is spherical, spiny and crimson. The flowering period is from June to July. The fruit period is from August to September.
