Tongtiancao
(yinpianxinshen)
[synonym] stem of water chestnut (new ginseng for decoction pieces), stem of ground chestnut (stem of Chinese chestnut) and seedling of water chestnut (Suzhou native medicinal material).
[source] it is the aerial stem of Eleocharis tuberosa. For plant morphology, please refer to "water chestnut".
[collection] from July to August, the stems were cut and dried in the sun.
[herbal medicine] the dry stem is flattened, 60-90 cm long, 4-7 mm in diameter, with spikes at the top; the upper part is light yellow, not easy to break; the lower part is light green, easy to break. All of them are wrinkled, with longitudinal lines and luster on the surface; the joints are slightly raised, soft and light, with empty middle. There are white membranous intervals in the fracture surface, which are honeycomb like when observed with an magnifying glass. The air is weak. It is better to be dry, complete, yellowish green and free of soil impurities.
It is mainly produced in Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang and other places.
