Deciduous tree, 8-12m high. Bark gray or grayish white, longitudinally lobed. Branchlets purplish, buds white villous. Leaves alternate, membranous, broadly oblanced, oblong or oblong, 10-15 cm long, apex long acuminate or short tailed, base cuneate or rounded, entire, veins and axils hairy below; petiole 8-11 mm long. The first leaf of the flower is open, single at the top of the branch, cup-shaped, aromatic, about 6cm in diameter; perianth segments are 9, similar in shape, oblanceolate or nearly spatulate, about 5-6cm long, pink or light pink; stamens are numerous, about 1cm long, filaments purplish red. Aggregate fruit cylindric, about 4-6 cm long; a few cyanine pods, woody, with nodular spots, apex rounded or obtuse.
It is distributed in Zhejiang Province.
In addition, the flower buds of Magnolia amurensis are also used. The main differences are as follows: the bark is nearly smooth, there are silky hairs at the beginning of the twigs; the leaves gather at the top of the twigs, long elliptic obovate, and the upper net veins are obvious.
