[plant morphology] POA rigida
Perennial herbs, 30-60 cm high. Culms erect, tufted, tough and rough, with 3-4 nodes. Leaf blade linear, flat, slightly rough, 3-7 cm long, 0.5-1 mm wide; long leaf sheath, glabrous, no ridge; ligule membranous, apex acute, ca. 4 mm long. Panicle, dense and compact, narrow long rectangular to linear, 3-10 cm long, 1 cm wide; spikelets lanceolate, 4 mm long, green, mature grass yellow, containing 4-6 florets; glumes lanceolate, apex acute, 2.5-3 mm long. Caryopsis fusiform, ventrally sulcate, ca. 2 mm long. The flowering period is from June to July.
It grows on grassland, roadside, forest, hillside and hilly land. It is distributed in Shandong and Jiangsu provinces in Northeast, north, northwest and East China.

[chemical constituents] the whole plant contains three triterpenoids, such as Arundinaria officinalis, myxolone, uninhibited terpenoids, β - thymol, and fernenol.

Functions and indications: clearing away heat and toxin, diuresis and pain. It can cure dysuria and yellow water sores.
