[plant morphology] Celastrus orbiculatus
Rattan shrub. Stem cylindrical, dark brown, smooth surface. Leaves alternate, broadly lanceolate, 7-10 cm long and 3-4.2 cm wide, apex acuminate or awn pointed, base heart-shaped or truncate, margin acutely serrate, glabrous on both sides, dark green above and purple below; petiole 2-4.5 cm long. Flowers solitary in leaf axils; sepals and petals 4; stamens numerous; ovary superior, style numerous. The berry is oblong, green when young, and has many seeds. The flowering period is from June to July. The fruiting period is July.
It grows on the steep slope of Banyin mountain. It is distributed in central and Western China.

Functions and indications: clearing away heat and detumescence. It is used to treat swelling and brightness of the whole body, redness and swelling of back carbuncle and colic of intestinal carbuncle.
