Huajinyaozi

[plant morphology] Chinese goldenrod
Herbs perennial, 5-14 cm high. Root like. Stem erect or oblique, glabrous, with sterile branches. Most of the basal leaves and rhizomes have withered during flowering; the stem leaves are ovate or broadly ovate, 7-12 mm long and 6-10 mm wide, with 4-6 small obtuse teeth on each side; the petiole length is slightly equal to that of the leaves. Cyme slightly compact; flowers campanulate; sepals erect, 4, ovate or oblate, 1-1.5 mm long, 1-2 mm wide, yellowish green; apetalous; stamens usually 8, shorter than sepals. Capsule 2-lobed. Seeds wide elliptic, 0.6-0.7 mm long, reddish brown, smooth, with tiny papillae.
It grows in Riverside wetland or mountain forest. It is distributed in Western Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Western Hubei and Northwest Sichuan.

Bitter, cold.

Functions and indications: clearing away heat and removing jaundice. Treat hepatitis, stone, urethra infection.
[usage and dosage] oral: decoction, 2-3 yuan.
[prescription selection] ① for urinary tract infection and astringent and painful urination: huajinyaozi with Artemisia annua, Plantago asiatica and Ruixu decoction.
② Treatment of biliary calculi and hepatitis jaundice: huajinyaozi with Yinchen, Yujin, Zhike decoction.
③ Treatment of bladder stones: huajinyaozi with alfalfa and Qumai decoction.
