Perennial herbs, 20-80 cm high. The lower part is creeping and rooting; the stem is square and hairy on the node. Leaves opposite, oblong lanceolate to lanceolate, 4-10.5 cm long, 0.7-3 cm wide, apex acute, base suborbicular or cordate, margin serrate, glabrous on both sides; petiole 3-17 mm long. The flower ring has 6 or more flowers, axillary and integrated into a discontinuous panicle raceme, or terminal at the branch tip, with 5-12 cm long axis; bracts small, lanceolate; calyx campanulate, 7.2 mm long, glabrous or puberulent outside, with 10 veins and 5 teeth, tip of teeth with needle, edge with cilia, upper lip 3 teeth, lower lip 2 teeth; corolla reddish or lavender, 14.5 mm long, upper lip obovate Outer surface pubescent, entire, lower lip 3-lobed; stamens 4, 2-strong; style apex 2-lobed, shorter than stamens. Nutlets obovate, 1.8 mm long, black, smooth. The flowering period is from April to June and the fruiting period is from May to July.
