[source] it is the algae of qiongzhi, a kind of red feather vegetable.

In summer, the back of the algal body is usually yellow, while the abdomen is red. Cartilaginous, irregularly branched. Branches flat, 3-5 mm wide, 1-2 mm thick. Sometimes there are conical protuberances on one side of the algal body, and pinnate branchlets on both sides. The top of the branchlets often has disk-shaped fixators, which are more on the ventral side of the algal body and are used to attach to the broken coral or other substrates. The branches often adhere to each other and form clumps. Internal structure: there are 3-4 layers of pigmented cortical cells in the outermost part, and the thin-walled cells in the medullary part are inward, and there are dense filaments in the center of the medullary part. The capsule is globose and protrudes from the surface of the algal body. The tetrasporangium is stratified and located in the cortex. The cysts mature from June to August.

It grows on the broken corals 1-2 meters below the main tidal line, and a few in the dark crevices of the low tide zone. It is distributed along the coast of Hainan Island, Guangdong Province.
