Perennial herbs, 20-30 cm high. The root is stout, the skin is yellowish brown, and the fibrous roots are numerous. Stem erect, yellowish brown, villous and mixed glandular pubescent. Single leaf opposite, elliptic or obovate, 4.5-13 cm long, 2.2-6.5 cm wide, base cuneate, margin obtuse dentate, both sides pilose. The cyme has 6 flowers, arranged into a single false raceme; bracts are small, oval, 4-5 mm long; calyx is purplish red, wide tubular, 7-8 mm long, upper lip is large, round, margin extended downward, lower lip 4 teeth separated; corolla is light red to purple, 1.8-1.9 cm long, corolla is simple, upper lip 4-lobed, lower lip entire, concave; stamens 4, 2, 2 long, 2 short; style tip is rod-shaped. Nutlets are spherical.
