Body slender, about 8 cm long. There are 1 pair of large compound eyes on the head, connected left and right; the antennae are short and can move freely; the mouth is developed and good at chewing; there are black stripes on the upper forehead. The chest is green on both sides. Wings 2 pairs, long, membranous, yellow and transparent, venae reticulate; nevus at the end of wing margin. The legs are brown and the rest are black. The abdomen is slender and consists of 10 segments; the male is bluish blue in the first and second segments, and the female is reddish brown. There is a pair of short caudal feet at the caudal end, and the male and female genitalia are also opened here. There is a special connector in the center of the ventral surface of the second segment of the abdomen of the male.

In summer and autumn, they fly in the fields and near the water to prey on small flying insects. When flying by the water's edge, men and women often flock together. After mating, the female lays eggs in the water plant. The larvae are aquatic, with long body, short wings and wide abdomen. They also prey on small insects.
