[plant morphology] kumeicuo, also known as pair node thorn, diagonal thorn, broken rice seed, shaqiongle, broken rice wood.
Climbing shrubs evergreen or semi evergreen. Branchlets acupunctured. Leaves opposite, ovate to broadly elliptic, 1-4 cm long and 1-1.5 cm wide, apex obtuse, apiculate, base rounded or subcordate, lower veins prominent, both surfaces glabrous, only both sides of petiole with hairs; stipules caducous. Flowers are small, white, fragrant, villous, arranged in terminal panicles with spicate branches; calyx 5, petals 5, cucullate, disk cup-shaped, 5-lobed. Fruit purple black, nearly spherical, about 5 mm in diameter. The flowering period is from September to October. The fruit ripens from April to may in the next year.
It is usually planted as a hedge. It is distributed in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangdong and Guangxi.
