Herbs perennial, about 20-60 cm high. Rhizome creeping, fibrous roots more, longer. Leaves basal, usually 5-7; petiole about 3-11 cm long, with brown villi; leaves ovate long elliptic, 3-10 cm long, 2-5 cm wide, apex obtuse, entire or sparsely undulate, base heart-shaped, veins more prominent, green above, purplish red below, brown villi on both sides and margin. Heads arranged in long spikes. Involucral bracts round tubular, bracts hard, mostly imbricate; tubular flowers, bisexual, 3 or 4; corolla 5-lobed, lobes linear; stamens 5, anther base sagittate. Achenes oblanceolate, flat and longitudinally striate; with numerous white pinnate hairs. It blooms in autumn. The fruiting period is from March to April next year.
It grows on the steep wall of overhanging rock or the rock near the forest in the middle and low mountain areas. It is distributed in Sichuan and other places.
