[source] it is the whole body of Diao Hailong, pseudohailong or jianhailong, which has been removed the skin and viscera.
[animal morphology] 1. Diao Hailong
The body is long and narrow with flat sides. The total length of the body is 37-50 cm. Body height is much larger than body width. The trunk is pentagonal; the front part of the tail is hexagonal, and the rear part gradually becomes thin and tetragonal; the tail end is curly. The central edge of abdomen is especially prominent, and the upper edge and ridge are thick and strong. Head length, at the same level as the body axis, or at a large obtuse angle. There are coarse granular spines of different sizes around the orbit, on the dorsal ventral surface of the snout canal and on the posterior end of the top, and there are two cervical spines on the dorsal side of the neck. The length of the snout is about twice as long as that of the retroorbital head. The eyes are large and round with prominent orbit. Two on each side of the nostril. Small mouth, anterior position. The operculum is prominent with obvious radial striations. The branchial foramen are small and close to the dorsal margin of the head. The dorsal fin is long, 41-42, starting from the first segment of the caudal ring and ending at the 10th or 11th segment. Anal fin 4, very short. Pectoral fin 23, short and wide, lateral, lower. No caudal fin. The body is pale yellow, and there are a series of dark brown spots at the junction of the rib rings on the upper part of the trunk.
It inhabits in the lush places along the river. It is distributed in the South China Sea.
② Sea Dragon
Body length 20-22 cm, body width greater than body height. The trunk is thick and strong, nearly quadrangular; the tail is thin and pointed, curly, hexagonal in front, and quadrangular in rear. The head is long and on the same horizontal line as the body axis. In front of the base of pectoral fin, each has a large and protruding knot. On the head, there are no spines except for a small backward spine on the upper edge of ophthalmic ridge. The snout is long and flat, about twice as long as the orbital head. The orbit is slightly prominent. The body of bone ring is 16-17 and the tail is 51-53. The ridge on the body is thick and miscellaneous. The dorsal fin is 40-41, which starts from the last segment of the body ring and ends at the 9th-10th segment of the tail ring. The anal fin is 5-6, very small and close to the anus. Pectoral fin 20-22, short and wide, lateral, lower. No caudal fin. The body is bright green and yellow. There were different sizes of fresh macular spots on the body side and abdomen, and irregular dark green reticulation on the rostral side and below.
It is distributed in the South China Sea.
③ Jianhailong, also known as: yangzhiyu, qianchuanzi.
The length of the body is 11-20 cm. The height and width of the body are nearly equal. The trunk is heptagonal, the tail is quadrangular, and the tail is tapering. The head is long and thin. The length of the kiss is more than half the length of the head. The body of bone ring is 19, and the tail is 36-41. The dorsal fin is longer, 39-45, starting from the last body ring and ending at the ninth tail ring. Anal fin 4, short. Pectoral fin 12-13, fan-shaped, low. Caudal fin 9-10, posterior margin rounded. Body yellow green, ventral light yellow, body with many irregular dark transverse band. The dorsal fin, gluteal fin and pectoral fin are pale, and the caudal fin is dark brown.
It is distributed in the coastal areas of Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea and South China Sea.
[collection] it can be collected all year round, washed and dried. Or remove the outer skin and viscera, wash and dry. The highest yield is usually from April to September.
[herbal medicine] 1. Diaohealong's dried body is long and slightly flat, slightly thick in the middle, and gradually thin and curved in the tail. The total length is 20-40 cm, and the middle diameter is 2-2.5 cm. The surface is yellowish white or grayish brown. There is a long tubular mouth in front of the head and a pair of deep sunken eyes at the base of the mouth. There are 5 longitudinal ribs in the trunk, 6 longitudinal ribs in the anterior part of the tail and 4 longitudinal ribs in the posterior part. All have round protuberant pattern. The body is light, bony and hard. The gas is slightly fishy and the taste is slightly salty. It is better to be big, white and complete.
It is mainly produced in Guangdong.
② The dried body of the sea dragon (also known as the sea drill) is long and flat, slightly thick in the middle and slightly curved in the tail, with a total length of about 20 cm and a diameter of about 2 cm in the middle. The surface is grayish brown. The mouth is long and tubular. The eyes are big and round. There are 4 longitudinal ribs in the trunk, 8 longitudinal ribs in the anterior part of the tail and 4 longitudinal ribs in the posterior part. All with patterned patterns. The body is light, bony and hard. The smell is the same as the former.
It is mainly produced in Fujian and Guangdong.
③ The dried body of the pointed Sea Dragon (also known as the little sea dragon) is slender and twisted. It is about 15-20 cm in length and 0.4-0.5 cm in diameter. The tail is about twice as long as the trunk. The surface is grayish brown on the back and grayish yellow on the abdomen. There are 7 longitudinal ridges in the trunk and 4 longitudinal ridges in the tail. The bone ring is not obvious. It is light, brittle and easy to break. It is fishy, light and salty.
It is mainly produced in Shandong Province.
Among the people in Guangdong Province, all of them are used as medicine.
