Evergreen climbing shrubs, usually 5-10 m long, rarely 20 m long. Stems brown or yellowish brown, rudimentary; branchlets slender, light green, smooth, glabrous, with distinct lenticels. The leaves on both sides are oblong ovate, apex acutely caudate, base obliquely cuneate or round, the leaflets are all green, glabrous, 7-12 cm long, 5-7 cm wide, veins obvious, petioles thick and short; the total petioles are 9-15 cm long, base thick and short. Inflorescence racemose, flowers drooping; calyx densely tomentose, campanulate, lobes obtuse or sharp; corolla dark purple or purplish red; stamens 2-body, 10; ovary inferior, style slender, stigma capitate. Pods flat, densely covered with golden coarse hairs. Seeds round, yellow or black yellow.
It grows on the edge of the forest or around the fertile place. It is distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and other places.
The stem of this plant is also used as Caulis Spatholobi in a few areas.
