[plant morphology] Gossypium hirsutum

Deciduous shrubs or small trees, about 6 m high. Bark gray or grayish brown. Branchlets slender, gray green, slightly 4-ribbed; young branches sparsely pilose. Leaves opposite, elliptic ovate to ovate, 4-10 cm long, 3-6 cm wide, apex acuminate, margin serrulate, base cuneate or suborbicular, papery, green on both sides, glabrous; petiole 1-3 cm long. Cyme axillary, with 3-15 flowers; total pedicel 1-2 cm long; flowers yellow green, about 8 mm in diameter; sepals 4, suborbicular; petals 4, elliptic; stamens 4, anthers purple, almost as long as filaments; ovary connected with disk, style 1. The fruit is deeply split into 4 sharp edges, about 1 cm in diameter, and 4-valved when heated, revealing the orange red aril. The seeds are light yellow. The flowering period is from May to June. The fruit period is from September to October.

Born in hillside forest edge, piedmont, mountain stream roadside. It is distributed in most parts of the country.

[chemical constituents] the root bark and stem bark contain rubber, the dry bark contains gum 16.3-21.8%, and the seed contains oil 45.78%. It also contains euonyl.

Take 3-4 liang of silk cotton root, 5 yuan of Achyranthes bidentata (double fresh), 1 dose of water for each bite. The course of treatment should be at least 20 days. The course of treatment ranged from 3 to 10 years. After treatment, 6 cases were followed up (3-24 months after drug withdrawal), of which 5 cases were basically cured and 1 case was improved.
