[source] the bark of Burmese jujube, a rhamniaceae plant.
[plant morphology] Burmese jujube, also known as Dianci jujube.
Small evergreen trees, 3-6M high. Bark rough, reddish gray; branchlets pubescent with retroflexed spines. Leaves alternate, long elliptic ovate, 3.5-7 cm long, 2.5-5 cm wide, apex obtuse, base rounded or slightly oblique, 3 main veins, margin serrate, above light green, below dense yellow white villi; petiole about 1 cm long, pilose. Short cymes axillary, flowers small, ca. 4 mm in diam., short peduncle, calyx tube and lobes densely yellow pilose, persistent: petals 5, yellow; stamens 5: superior to ovary, 2-locular, not united with disk. Drupe subglobose, 2-3 cm long, 1-2 cm in diameter, red, peduncle 5-7 mm long, pubescent. It blooms in summer.
It grows on the edge of forest, roadside and hillside. It is distributed in Yunnan.
[collection] autumn collection. Remove the skin and dry in the sun.
[chemical constituents] the bark contains polypeptide alkaloids: diancijujubine a, diancijujubine B, anmufeibin D and rhamnetine.
[pharmacological action] the decoction of leaves and stems has significant excitatory effect on isolated rat uterus; it can dilate blood vessels in rat hind limb perfusion test; intravenous injection of anesthetized dogs can reduce blood pressure. It has no obvious effect on isolated guinea pig ileum and Toad rectus abdominis. The mice were intraperitoneally injected with 1g of the above decoction, and all the two mice died within 24 hours.
The fruit is edible.
[flavor] astringent, slightly bitter, flat.
[function indications] anti inflammatory, muscle. Treat burns and scalds.
