[plant morphology] Physalis latifolia
Perennial herbs, 20-30 cm high. Stem erect, solitary, 4-angled. Leaves opposite, petiole very short or nearly sessile; leaf blade broadly ovate to narrowly ovate, 3-6 cm long, 1.5-4 cm wide, apex short and acute, lower leaves sometimes obtuse, base suborbicular to broadly cuneate, margin coarsely serrate at upper part, base entire. The flowers are solitary at the top of branches or axils of leaves; the petiole is slender, about 3 cm long, less than 1 mm thick; the calyx is bell shaped, 1-1.5 cm long, 5 mm in diameter, 5 lobes, different in length and 1 larger at the back; the Corolla is pale yellow, about 1.7 cm in diameter, 2-lipped, 2-lobed upper lip, 3-lobed lower lip, with yellowish brown spots and two protruding veins; stamens are 4. Capsule. The flowering period is July.
It grows in the semi shade of middle mountain area. It is distributed in Sichuan and Yunnan.

[function indications] convergence, antidiarrhea. It can treat dysentery due to damp heat, diarrhea due to spleen deficiency and leucorrhea.
