There is one oil groove in the rib groove, the joint surface of the fruit is nearly flat, there are also two oil grooves, and the fruit has one seed. The flowering period is April. The fruit period is June.
It is cultivated all over the country.
[chemical constituents] the stems and leaves contain apigenin, citrolactone, volatile oil, organic acid, carotene, vitamin C, sugar, etc. In the volatile oil, there are α - apigenine, butylphthalide, neoserpentinolactone, cedanolactone and other phthalide derivatives which make parsley have special odor. Dry celery contains an acidic yellow substance, temporarily known as celery B part, which is soluble in alkali solution and has green fluorescence, and has antihypertensive effect.
The seeds contain apigenin, apigenin-7-coriander-glucoside a, apigenin-7-coriander-glucoside B, 3 "- methoxyluteolin-7-coriander-glucoside, etc.
The seed oil contains α - apigenine, which is also called the alkaloid part with stabilizing and antispasmodic effects on the central nervous system.
Trans coriander seed base acid is one of the fatty acids in fruit oil.
The root contains both glycolic acid and toxic polyacetylene compounds.
(1) antihypertensive effect
The crude extract of celery has obvious antihypertensive effect on rabbits and dogs by intravenous injection; vascular perfusion can cause vasodilation; with aortic arch perfusion method, it can resist the pressor response caused by nicotine and Pedunculine, and also can cause hypotension, so it is considered that its antihypertensive mechanism is mainly caused by aortic arch chemoreceptor. However, the acid extract had a mild and stable antihypertensive effect on rats, and its duration was significantly prolonged with the increase of the dose. The results showed that celery instead of green vegetables could not prevent renal hypertension in rats.
② Effects on the central nervous system
A basic component isolated from celery seed has sedative effect on animals and can enhance the anesthetic effect of pentobarbital. The experiments of conditioned escape reaction and reducing the mortality of amphetamine group mice show that the alkaloid has sedative effect. The maximum electric convulsion and the convulsion threshold test of pentamethenyltetrazole show that the alkaloid has anticonvulsant effect and low toxicity. Apigenin or apigenin can antagonize cocaine induced excitability in mice.
③ Effect on uterus
Celery seed extract has contractile effect on pregnant and non pregnant uterus, and can be used for dysmenorrhea, but the effect is doubtful.
The decoction of fresh leaves can promote the fermentation speed of baker's yeast, which has been used to test the anti anemia effect of liver extract. Therefore, whether celery also has liver extract like effect needs further study. The volatile oil has inhibitory effect on Pseudomonas in vitro, and the ether and acetone extracts of seeds have antibacterial effect. The processed tablet of the juice from the whole grass press has diuretic effect on dogs.

[clinical application] ① treatment of hypertension and reduction of serum myosterol
Remove the root of the raw celery, wash it with cold water, wring the juice, and add the same amount or syrup. Take it three times a day, 40 ml each time (warm when taking it). 16 cases were treated, 14 cases were effective and 2 cases were ineffective. The course of treatment was 15-20 days. Twenty one patients with hypertension, coronary heart disease and other diseases were treated. The fresh celery root is the best, and the dry celery root is the second.
② Treatment of chyluria
Take the green stem (shorter than the white stem, greenish green near the rhizome), the lower part of the stem (about 10 cm long) and the whole root (preferably more than 2 cm in diameter), 10 roots each time (increase according to the proportion when the rhizome is thinner), wash, add 600 ml water, and simmer to 200 ml. Take it twice a day on an empty stomach in the morning and evening. The time limit is indefinite. 6 cases were treated, except for 1 case, the other 5 cases were effective.
