Herbs perennial with rhizomes. The leaves are oblong, floating on the water, 5-12 cm long, 2.5-4 cm wide, apex obtuse, base usually heart-shaped. Terrestrial: stem erect, unbranched; leaves with short stalks; leaves broadly lanceolate, densely short bristle, 6-14 cm long, 1.5-2 cm wide, apex acute, base nearly round; stipules tubular, apex truncate. Inflorescence spicate, terminal or axillary; bracts triangular; flowers reddish or white; perianth 5-lobed; stamens 5; style 2, extending beyond perianth. Achene suborbicular, convex on both sides, black, glossy.
It grows in lakes, rivers, shallow water and waterfront wetlands. Distributed in Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong, Shaanxi, Hubei, Yunnan, Guizhou and other places.
