Shrub, 30-100cm high. Branches reddish brown, glabrous. Leaves opposite, stiff papery to sub leathery, oblong, 2-5 cm long, 8-15 mm wide, apex obtuse or acute, base cuneate, entire; petiole short or almost absent. The flowers are yellow green, several of which form terminal short racemes; the total pedicel is 6-10 mm long; the pedicel is 1-2 mm long; the calyx is tubular, 9-12 mm long, sparsely pilose, lobes 4, ovate; the stamens are 8, 2-whorled, the filaments are very short; the disc scales are 4, usually connate in pairs; the ovary is elliptic, the top is sparsely pilose, the stigma is subglobose, and the style is very short. Drupe ovate, ca. 6 mm long, dark red to purple black when ripe. The flowering and fruiting period is summer and autumn.
It grows in the moist shrub at the foot of mountain and hillside. Distribution in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Sichuan and other places.
