Lin Beizi

[plant morphology] wax tree
Deciduous shrubs or small trees, up to 10 meters high. The bark is grayish brown, initially smooth and then longitudinally split. Leaflets 9-15, opposite, oblong lanceolate, 5-10 cm long, 2-3 cm wide, apex long, base slightly asymmetrical or cuneate, entire, smooth and glabrous on both sides. Panicles axillary, ca. 10 cm long; flowers small, heterogeneous, yellow green; calyx 5-lobed, lobes ovate; petals 5-ovate elliptic; stamens 5; ovary superior, 1-locular. The drupe is flat and slanting, the mesocarp is waxy, the endocarp is hard and yellowish at maturity. The flowering period is from May to June. The fruiting period is October.
It grows in hillside, gully and shrubbery. Distribution in southwest, South China, East China and Hebei, Henan and other places.

[chemical composition] the bark contains 21.35% tannin. The sap contains urushiol and laccase, and the wood contains fisetin and yellow lignin. The leaves contain not only laccase glycosides but also tannins. The fruit contains oleic acid, lignocellulin A and lignocellulin B. The oil content of seed, shell and kernel was 30.1%, 56.36% and 9.52% respectively. The seeds also contain wax, including eicosanoic acid and eicosanoic acid.
[pharmacological action] the ethanol extract has anti histamine, 5-hydroxytryptamine and acetylcholine effects on isolated smooth muscle organs (such as small intestine, large intestine, uterus and bronchus). It has similar properties to antazoline, ergotamine and atropine, but its intensity is weak. Clinically, it is used to treat asthma, cough, diarrhea, abdominal pain, etc.
The sodium salt of lacquer tree acid is soluble in water. A small amount of rhubarb acid can make the heart of frog and rabbit systolic, pulsatile and diastolic, so the stroke volume increases, but a large amount of rhubarb acid can inhibit the heart; it can delay the conduction system, excite the vagus nerve endings, slow the heart beat (the effect is short); it can contract the blood vessels (a small amount of rhubarb acid can dilate the coronary artery); a small amount of rhubarb acid can increase the blood pressure of animals, but a large amount of rhubarb acid can depress the heart, and has a negative effect on the respiratory center It's exciting. A small amount enlarges the pupil, but a large amount shrinks it. It has some exciting effect on the uterus. It can paralyze the central nervous system, but does not invade the motor nerve and striated muscle. The lethal dose of sodium lacquer tree acid to rabbits is 0.00667g/kg, which has a slight accumulative effect. The dermatitis caused by its lacquer can be prevented and treated with phenacetin.
