[chemical constituents] in roots and leaves, there is a pyrrolidine alkaloid, Senecio clarkii, which contains 0.0003% in fresh roots and 0.004% in dry leaves. There are also furfuran sesquiterpenoids in the roots: 6 β - furanyaranane, 10 β - diol, 1 β - light-6 β - methoxyfuranyaranane and 10 β - hydroxyfuranyaranane-6 β - 2 ′ ξ methyl butyrate.
The rhizome contains furan sesquiterpenoids daucosterol A and daucosterol B.
[pharmacological action] the action of Senecio kirilowii is similar to that of other pyrrolidins (see "dabaidingcao") and has significant toxicity to liver and lung. It can cause liver cancer. According to experimental studies, newborn rats are more sensitive than suckling young rats, and more sensitive than adult rats. Therefore, bipyridine does not turn into toxic metabolites in liver microsomes (lack of metabolic enzymes in liver of newborn rats), but may turn into corresponding epoxides in vivo.
