Achnatherum splendens
Perennial herbs, 0.5-2.5 m high. The root is thick and tough, covered with sand, 3 mm in diameter. Stem erect, stout, hard, tufted, base persistent yellowish brown withered leaf sheath. The leaves are linear, 30-60 cm long, longitudinally folded, tough, with raised veins on the top, slightly rough, with many concave grooves on the bottom, smooth and glabrous; the leaf sheath is hairless, tough, and the edge is membranous; the tongue is hard, acuminate, 5-7 mm long (the upper part of the stem reaches 1 cm). Panicle, 40-60 cm long, in the shape of a tower, gathered on one side of the culm. Its branches are thin and weak; spikelets are 4.5-6.5 mm long, grayish green or purplish or yellowish; glumes are membranous, lanceolate and elliptic, the first glume is shorter than the second; awns are erect or slightly curved, but not twisted and easy to break. The flowering and fruiting period is autumn.
It grows on the slightly alkaline grassland, dry river bed, lakeside, riverside and low land between hills. Distributed in Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai, Xinjiang and other places.
