[plant morphology] Pteris pinnatifida

Perennial herbs, 50-100 cm high. Rhizome erect, with strip lanceolate flesh brown scales. The fertile leaves are ovoid, 25-30 cm long and 15-20 cm wide, one pinnate, but the pinnae below the middle are usually bifurcated, sometimes there are 1-2 separated pinnules at the base; the pinnae or pinnules are 15-25 cm long and 6-8 mm wide, strip lanceolate, with sharp serrations at the top; the sterile leaves are of the same type, but the pinnae or pinnules are 1-1 wide 5 cm, margin sharply serrate. The sporangia are linear and distributed continuously along the leaf margin below the top of the pinna. The cover of sporangia is narrow, gray and membranous.

It grows in shady and wet places under the forest or in limestone crevices. It is distributed in most areas south of the Yangtze River, Shaanxi, Tibet and other places.
