Deciduous shrub with vines, up to 1.5 m in height. The bark is yellowish green, slightly smooth, with black massive spots. Leaves alternate, ovate to ovate elliptic, 1.5-5.5 cm long and 0.5-1.7 cm wide, base rounded, apex obtuse or acuminate, entire, pale green above and gray white below, with 7-12 contralateral veins; petiole 1-2 cm long. Panicle terminal, 5-15 cm long; flowers small, pink green; calyx 5-lobed; petals 5; stamens 5; ovary hidden in disk, but separated from each other, 2-locular, style 2-cleft. The drupe is ovoid to cut ovoid, surrounded by calyx tube at the base, green at first, then red, and purple black at last. The flowering period is from July to August. The fruiting period is September.
It grows on mountain roadside and shrub edge. Distributed in Anhui, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Taiwan and other places.
