Perennial herbs, 15-50 cm high. Rhizome transverse, light yellow brown. Stem erect, tufted, covered with gray white curly pilose. Leaves alternate; sessile or shortly petiolate; leaf blade lanceolate to elliptic lanceolate, thick papery, 1.5-7 cm long, 0.5-2 cm wide, apex obtuse or acuminate, base broadly cuneate or suborbicular, apex entire, lower 2 / 3 parts with sparse large teeth, both sides covered with white pilose, with glands below. Raceme terminal, densely pubescent; flowers small, unisexual, monoecious; male flowers in the upper end of the inflorescence, with long oval or lanceolate bracts 2, bracts usually with 1-3 flowers; sepals 5, sparse 4; petals 5, sparse 4, scaly; yellow glands basin, alternate with petals; stamens 10-15; flowers in the lower part of the inflorescence are slightly larger, one in the middle is female flower, two on both sides is female flower Male flowers: bracts 2, female flowers with longer pedicels; sepals 5-6; petals 6; ovary superior, style 3, all 2-lobed. It is a dry whole grass with rhizome and leaves. Rhizome cylindrical, about 10 cm long; surface grayish yellow, section yellowish white, woody. Stem 2-20 mm in diam., pale green to grayish white, glabrous, glabrous. The leaves are curly and wrinkled, grayish green, covered with grayish white pubescence, brittle and easy to fall off. Sometimes there are small round flowers and fruits on the inflorescence. The air is weak and the taste is light. It is better to have green color, tender branches and pearly fruits.
It is mainly produced in Shandong, Henan and Jiangsu. In addition, it is also produced in Gansu, Shanxi and Shaanxi.
② Fengxian Tougu grass
It is the dry stem of the plant anemone. It is long cylindrical, 30-60 cm long, 1-2 cm in diameter at the lower end. It is mostly shrunken and longitudinally ribbed, with yellowish brown to light brown surface, swollen nodes, leaf and bud marks, or few branches. Light and brittle, easy to break, hollow section, or white membranous pulp. The gas is weak and the taste is slightly sour.
Produced in Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hebei, Xinjiang and other places.

① Ranunculus angustifolia
It is the whole plant of Artemisia ordosica. Produced in Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Shandong and other places. See "Artemisia annua" section.
② Clematis officinalis (Medical Guide)
It is the dried whole grass of Clematis flaviflora, a Ranunculus species, which grows in Hebei and Beijing. See Clematis flaviflora. The whole plant of Clematis tenuifolia is still available in the commodity of Clematis tenuifolia.
③ In Northeast China, the whole grass of leguminous plant Vicia sativa, Vicia widely distributed and Vicia pseudoxiangensis is still used as Tougu grass. See the "wild pea" section.
④ In Yunnan and Guizhou provinces, the branches and leaves of Rhododendron yunnanensis were used as bone penetrating grass. See "Touguxiang".
Tougu grass was first seen in "save famine Materia Medica". According to the figure, it is Leonurus heterophyllus, a Labiatae plant, not this product. In the compendium, it is well-known but not used. It contains Tougucao, but its form is unknown. Tougucao in Bencao Yuanyuan refers to the leaves of Euphorbiaceae. "The wind immortal flower is a bone penetrating herb," is quoted from "LingMi Dan Yao Jian" in "Gangmu Shiyi". "It is the Impatiens of the Impatiens family; the Clematis in the medical guide is the clematis of the Ranunculaceae, so it can be seen that the ancient medicinal Clematis is no longer a species.

The stem contains kaempferol-3-glucoside, quercetin-3-glucoside, geranium-3-glucoside and cyanidin-5-glucoside.
