[plant morphology] walnut (Qianjin Shizhi), also known as Qiang peach (Mingwu Zhi), walnut (Gangmu), Wansui Zi (Huajing).

Deciduous tree, 30-35 m high. Branches covered with short glandular hairs when young, pith flaky. Leaflets 5-11, oblong ovate, elliptic or obovate, 5-13 cm long, 2-7 cm wide, apex obtuse or acute, base rounded, or slightly oblique, entire, undulate serrate when young, glabrous above, hairy below, axillary veins when young. Flowers unisexual, monoecious; male flowers in catkin, axillary, pendulous, 5-12 cm long, flowers small and dense; bracts 1, oblong, 2 bracts on both sides, long ovate, perianth usually 3, bracts and perianth are white pilose; stamens 15-30; female inflorescences at the top of young branches, arranged in spike shape; bracts 3, long ovate; perianth 4-lobed, lobes linear; ovary inferior, style Stigma 2-lobed, short. The fruit is nearly globose, 3-5cm in diameter, with fleshy exocarp, grayish green and brown spots; the endocarp is hard, light wrinkled and yellowish brown. They like to grow in warm and fertile soil, and mostly grow in flat land. It is widely cultivated all over China.

It is mainly produced in Hebei, Shanxi and Shandong. Hebei has the largest output and Shanxi has the best quality.

The mature fruit contains cellulose and pentosan. The unfermented fruits contain citrulline, juglone and vitamin C.
