[plant morphology] Chali
Shrubs or small trees, 4-15m high, all glabrous. The leaves are thick and leathery, with clustered branchlets at the top, lanceolate or oblong lanceolate, 4.5-15 cm long and 2-6 cm wide, entire; the petiole is 2-3 cm long. Inflorescence consists of many flowers arranged in a tight spiral shape, mostly near terminal; flowers are usually white, pedicels 2-6 cm long, erect and thick; calyx is thick, red, oval or round, 1-1.5 cm long, margin membranous; petals membranous, about 2 cm long, with short tips; stamens 30-40, 1.2-1.5 cm long, anthers basal, strip, with long tips; ovary half inferior, 2-3-locular. The berry is about 2 cm in diameter. Enclosed by persistent calyx.
It grows on hillside, roadside and mixed forest. It is distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi and Hunan.

Functions and indications: invigorate the stomach, soothe the liver and reduce fever. Treatment of dyspepsia, enteritis, hepatitis.
