[plant morphology] Broussonetia papyrifera, also known as pupan, chuoye and jianyechu.
Deciduous shrubs. Branches creeping or climbing, with milk. Leaves alternate, ovate elliptic or ovate lanceolate, 6-12 cm long, 3-5 cm wide, long pointed, base oblique, round or slightly heart-shaped, margin serrate, rarely divided, hairy on both sides, three veins; petiole 7-12 mm long. The flowers are unisexual, monoecious; the male flowers are tubular, pendulous, yellow inflorescence, perianth 4, stamen 4; the female inflorescence is capitate; the bracts are long pedunculate, discoid; the style is lateral, filiform, spiny. Figs globose, ca. 5 mm in diam., fleshy, red at maturity. The flowering period is April.
It grows in hillside shrub or secondary mixed forest. It is distributed in central and South China.

Functions and indications: dispelling wind, promoting blood circulation and diuresis. It is used to treat rheumatic arthralgia, traumatic injury, deficiency swelling and dermatitis.
