Shrubs to small trees, 1-5m high. Young branches tetragonal, narrowly winged. Leaves opposite, thin leathery, oblong or lanceolate, 6-12 cm long and 1.5-3.5 cm wide, apex acuminate, acute or caudate acuminate, base cuneate, margin entire slightly retrorse, midrib convex above, lateral veins fine and dense, parallel arranged in grate shape. Flowers bisexual, white and reddish, usually 3, sometimes 1-5 arranged in cymes; bracteoles linear, caducous; sepals 4, outer 2 smaller, round, inner 2 larger, obovate; petals usually 4, obovate; stamens many, filament base combined into 4 bundles; ovary ovate, style slender, stigma subulate.
