[plant morphology] the wind box tree, also known as Myrica rubra (essential for the preparation of raw herbal medicine), pearl flower tree, jizimu, Mayan tree, shuibaomu, Daye Myrica rubra and pseudofantao.

Evergreen shrubs, 1-4 m high. There are many branches. Leaves opposite, rarely whorled, round or elliptic lanceolate, subcleathery, 7-13 cm long, 2.5-8 cm wide, apex short pointed, long pointed or obtuse, base rounded or subcordate, entire, below pilose or pubescent; petiole 5-10 mm long; stipules triangular, apex pointed, often with a black glandular spot. Inflorescence terminal or axillary, or arranged in racemes, flowers bisexual; calyx ca. 3 mm long, outside hairy, lobes very short; corolla tube funnel-shaped, white, ca. 8.3 mm long; inside pilose, lobes 4, obtuse; stamens 4, filaments short; ovary inferior, style linear, exposed. Capsule obconic, calyx persistent. Seeds oblong. The flowering period is late autumn and early winter.

Born in streams, ditches, fields, low-lying slopes, wet land. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, Zhejiang, Yunnan, Jiangxi and other places.
