[chemical constituents] it contains 0.05% volatile oil, of which terpenoids account for 88%, sesquiterpenoids account for 2%, sesquiterpenols account for 0.6%, and a terpene called threonine.

[pharmacological action] the hemostatic powder made from alcohol extract has a certain hemostatic effect on femoral artery bleeding, liver and spleen wound bleeding, amputated limb surface bleeding, etc., but the absorption is not ideal, and the hemostatic effect of the drug is significantly reduced after damp.

[clinical application] treatment of acute gastroenteritis

Liquidambar formosana was made into 100% decoction, 50-100 ml each time, 2-3 times a day; children took 10-20 ml each time, 3-4 times a day. For severe vomiting, chlorpromazine or acupuncture at Neiguan (double) should be used first; atropine should be added for severe abdominal pain; rehydration should be given for dehydration. Eighty seven patients were cured in one day, five in two days and two in three days. After taking the medicine, except that a small number of cases (mostly children) can induce vomiting and nausea, there are no other side effects.
