Perennial herbs, 20-60 cm high. Stem tetragonal, much branched, all pilose. Leaves opposite, ovate, 1-5 cm long, 5-25 mm wide, apex pointed or obtuse, base cuneate, margin serrate. Flowers densely integrated into cymes, axillary terminal; bracts linear, subulate, margin with long cilia, 3-6 mm long; calyx tubular, green, calyx tube with 5 teeth, 2-lipped; corolla light red or purplish red, outside and below the larynx with short hairs, base tubular, gradually open upward, about 5-7.5 mm long, upper lip semicircular, tip concave, lower lip 3-lobed, Lateral segment narrowly oblong, middle segment cordate, apex slightly concave; stamens 2, anther chamber slightly divergent; style bearing ovary base, protruding out of corolla tube, 2-lobed. Nutlets broadly ovate, brownish yellow. The flowering period is from July to August. The fruit period is from September to October.
It grows on grassland, hillside and roadside. It is distributed in Northeast, East and southwest of China.
